THE DISCORD → OMNITEAM MIGRATION

What you bring with you, and what stays behind.

We are honest about which Discord concepts import directly, which we approximate, and which we don’t handle yet. The table below is the contract — if a row says imports, you can rely on it.

WEEK 1

What the first week actually looks like.

  1. Decide who is migrating

Discord migrations usually start with the B2B-team channels — the ones with revenue conversations, customer DMs, vendor discussions. Hobby/community channels can stay on Discord.

  2. Export and import

Discord export tools cover the major data types. We import channels, messages, DMs, custom emoji, roles. Voice channels do not transfer (we do not have voice in v1).

  3. Run dual-tool

Multi-account on web means team members can keep Discord for community while using OmniTeam for B2B.

  4. Cut over the B2B side

Once revenue / vendor / customer-facing chat is in OmniTeam, the B2B side has migrated. Community side stays on Discord if it is genuinely a community.

  5. Keep separation

Many of our customers run both — OmniTeam for the B2B chat, Discord for the public community. That is intentional and fine.

FAQ

What people ask about migrating from Discord.

Should our whole community migrate?

Probably not. Discord is genuinely good at consumer/community use cases. Migrate the B2B-team chat (revenue conversations, customer support, vendor discussions, internal team chat). Keep Discord for the community-facing side.

What about voice channels?

Voice is a v2 commitment for us. For launch, integrate Jitsi or Whereby for B2B meetings. If voice is a primary requirement (always-on voice presence), Discord remains the better tool.

Will roles and permissions transfer?

Yes. Role hierarchy maps cleanly. We have Slack-style admin/member/guest plus custom roles per workspace.

What about bots like MEE6 or Carl-bot?

Discord bot ecosystem does not transfer directly. Common functions (moderation, role assignment, scheduled messages) ship as built-in features in {brand}. Custom bots via our v1.1 Public API.

How do we handle public-server discoverability?

We are intentionally not a public-server platform. We are a B2B chat product. If discoverability is core to your use case, stay on Discord.

What about NSFW channels and content moderation?

We are not a consumer platform; B2B workspaces don’t need NSFW gating in the way Discord does. Workspace admins control moderation per channel.

Can we integrate with a Discord server we keep?

Webhook posting between Discord and {brand} is a common pattern. Many of our customers cross-post important announcements to a Discord community via webhook.
