Slack is the right call when your team already lives on Slack, your customer ecosystem expects Slack-Connect, and EU data sovereignty is not in your contract requirements. Slack’s product is genuinely good — the integrations marketplace is the deepest in the category, the Connect feature for cross-company channels is hard to replicate, and the brand recognition reduces the change-management cost. Pay the bill, accept the data politics, and ship.

What people ask about Slack → OmniTeam.
Will my Slack message history come over?
Yes. Channels, threads, DMs, files, custom emoji, and members all import via the standard Slack export ZIP. Reactions and pins also import. Slack-AI summaries do not (we do not have AI in launch v1).
How long does the import take?
For workspaces under 100 members and under 10GB of files, typically under an hour. Large workspaces (1000+ members, 100GB+) we run as overnight imports — you upload the export, we email you when it’s ready.
What about Slack Connect channels with our customers?
Cross-workspace channels are a v2 commitment. For launch, customers stay on Slack for Connect channels — many teams run dual-tool for that reason alone. We will publish migration guidance once the feature ships.
Will my integrations work?
Some directly (anything that posts via webhook). Bots and apps from the Slack marketplace require new authentications via our v1.1 Public API. We ship integrations for the most-used 20 in v1.1 — see /roadmap.
What about Slack’s 90-day free-tier retention cap?
Our free tier has no retention cap. You get full message history, full search, on every tier — including Free. This alone is reason enough for many teams to consider migrating.
Can we run both tools in parallel?
Yes, and we recommend it for the first week. Multi-account on web means your team doesn’t have to choose. Once a critical mass of channels is active in {brand}, the migration completes itself.
How do we handle compliance during migration?
Both Slack’s last archive and our import audit log are preserved. The handover is documentable in your audit trail. /trust covers the architecture.
What if we need to roll back?
Within 30 days of cutover, you can request a full export from us in Slack-compatible format. After that, the export is in our portable format (still complete, still yours).
